THE HARVEST 2020 IN MONTEPULCIANO
Good quality with excellent production
We can be satisfied with the 2020 harvest. A rainy winter and spring resulted good supply of water in soils. Lack of rain reduced downy mildew and pathogenic fungi attack. Thanks to the warm and drought in August, the grapes have reached optimal ripeness in the harvest and good health. The harvest by hand, began on September 14th and concluded during the second week of October. The grapes harvested in September before the rains (cv. Merlot and Sangiovese) were healthy and excellent quality with high sugar content and good acidity. Between late September and early October, ten days of rain really slowed things up, made that a heavier harvesting operations. The heavy rains diluted only partially the grapes harvested during this time. We are expecting wines with good body, soft and elegant tannins that is characteristic of Sangiovese grown in Montepulciano. Today, we are very pleased with the good quantity of grape, slightly lower the 2019, of about 125 tonnes. The average quality is more than discreet and in some cases extremely good like Merlot and Sangiovese from Maramai and Toraia crus.
